SPA Shinzen at the Daniel Dead Sea Hotel: REVIEW

It's quite lovely to slather oneself in mud. Perhaps even better when a professional slathers you.
While a traditional visit to the Dead Sea in Israel beckons one to come and float, there are other ways to encounter the healthy benefits of its salty character. So, after a reviving float...

...we ducked into the SPA Shinzen at the Daniel Dead Sea Hotel for a more refined, intentional, and relaxing experience with the Dead Sea. We had an amazing couples' massage plus a mud wrap. Spa Shinzen has a great range of options of their Treatment Menu. Plus, they are one of the few hotels along the Dead Sea who offer couples' massages.

The mud application and drying was fascinating. A container that reminded me of an iron-age mini-upright-wheelbarrow was pushed into the room by each masseuse. Then scoops of mud from the containers were slid across our skin. There it remained to dry for 20+ minutes, our skin warming and tightening along the way. We laid still, relaying to one another the odd sensations of the moments. It was hard not to laugh and disrupt the drying mud, as our descriptions gurgled out of our humorous writer-ly imaginations. I love sharing unusual experiences with my hilarious comuse.

After rinsing the mud off, we recognized the mud was deeply cleansing and our skin felt nourished as well as very, very soft. This was significantly more refreshing than prior mud experiences I'd had. Moreover, it was really memorable to have the experience together.

All of the staff at the Daniel were very present, kind, and professional. We were impressed by how fluid our mud-time was and how well they balanced administering the mud etc with allow us space and relaxation.

If you go to the Dead Sea, wrap up your time in mud. It's a truly mud-velous experience. :)
